*FEMA DEADLINE - NOVEMBER 16, 2016*

Tyrrell County has operated under a State of Emergency since October 4, 2016. The county will continue to operate under a State of Emergency until all FEMA activities are established and physical threats have abated. In the event that citizens have individual damage and wish to make a disaster registration with FEMA the number is 1-800-621-3362. The citizens may register online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov. Citizens will be advised if a disaster recovery center is opened in Tyrrell County.

On October 17, 2016 individuals in Tyrrell County were approved to apply for disaster unemployment assistance. Individuals in Tyrrell County who are affected by the disaster and are unable to continue working must file an application for benefits by November 16, 2016. Individuals may be eligible beginning the week starting October 9, 2016. Applications for benefits may be made by contacting the division of employment security at 1-866-795-8877.

Effective today, Friday October 21, 2016, there are three Disaster Service Assistance Teams going door to door throughout the county.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has authorized the opening of a Disaster Recovery Center in Tyrrell County. The Tyrrell County Disaster Recovery Center will be fully operational on Thursday, October 27, 2016. The Disaster Recovery Center will be located at the Tyrrell Hall building located at 906 US Highway 64 East in Columbia. The Center will operate Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 7 pm. Tyrrell County residents, homeowners, renters and business owners are urged to register with FEMA and visit the Disaster Recovery Center as they may be eligible for disaster assistance.
